Middle-earth Middle Earth The term " Middle-earth " was not coined by Tolkien. He began to avail the term "Middle-earth" in early 1930s." Middle-earth " is minutely destined to label the lands East of the Great sea (Belegaer:is the sea of Arda(Earth) that is in the west of Middle-earth),thus eliminating Aman(the undying lands),but taking in Harda and other mortal lands. The name is applicable to the entirety of Tolkien's World or solely to the land depicted in “ The Hobbit” , “ The Lord of the Rings” and The Silmarillion .
